Bert: The "Bouledogue Française" You Can't Help But Love

"Happiness is a warm puppy." - Charles M. Schulz

The first time I met Bert I fell in love. He waddled up to me, tiny tail wagging and tongue hanging down to his knees, his eyes imploring: "Scratch me behind the ears, madame?" I had no choice but to oblige.

This little prince is four years old, and the darling of my dear friend Cary. Seeing the two of them together will make any onlooker melt, and the way they look at each other, it's like nothing else.

French Bulldogs ("Frenchies") were bred in the 19th century as "toy bulldogs," companion pets which would supposedly be less aggressive than their larger counterparts (although, I've never met a bulldog I haven't liked). They are cross between proper English bulldogs and French "ratters." The British typically refer to them as "pigdogs," but we figure that's because they're just bitter about not designing this pedigree first.

Regardless of their origin, these little creatures are kind, loving companions who are clever and extremely well-behaved.

I mean, how could you not love this face?!?

****All dogs are special, no matter their breed or origin, and they deserve to be loved. Research breeders, know how they treat their animals, and if you can adopt, adopt! If you can rescue, rescue! Do whatever you can, spread life and love to all creatures. If you change one life, you will have done such a great thing for this world...and if it's a dog whose life you change, they will be grateful to you and love you forever. Once you have a dog's love, it will never diminish. Never.
